darky be good

DARKY BE GOOD

Okay, I’m warning you right now that today is a Tirade Only article with little to no application to survivalism.  I feel I have deserved this as it has been some time since I’ve felt the overpowering need, plus I did deliver the mostly favorite and coveted Gun & Ammo article yesterday.  As I’ve said before, class warfare in this country pisses me off good and proper.  While supposedly we are an equal, democratic and equalitarian society, in practice money determines your class status.  Always has and always will until the day roving bands of zombies eat the rich for their desired marbled flesh.  I don’t hate the rich for having money-I could have pursued wealth but chose an artistic calling.  I don’t care all that much about money, period.  No, I hate the rich because they have the attitude that their fecal emissions lack an unpleasant olfactory sense.  Just because you have money you are better than me?  At least I earned mine morally and legally, bitch.  Not that I care what they think, either.  I simply hate them, enjoy hating them, and feel little need to justify my attitude.  Don’t get me wrong-if you have a nice rack, a solid G3 clone arsenal, a retreat in a desirable location and a lot of money you stole from your rich ex husband and want to be my Sugar Momma, I’ll forgive you.  But the rest of you rich humpers, screw you.

*

Money as a social marker is class warfare, and the rich have few qualms about letting you know that they are enjoying the fight.  Which is of course stupid, because all they are doing is advertising their wealth.  Which might seem like a good idea now, flashing your peacock feathers to advertise for a newer Trophy Wife, or showing the rest of the flock of hens how special you are because you are a better paid whore, but in the very near future when the guillotines come out, being royalty is not who you want to be.  So, yeh, I guess the rich are stupider than they think.  Not that I’m in close contact with a whole lot of actual rich people.  They live in gated communities or exclusive sections of town.  But the Rich Clones, the Yuppie Scum, the bastards that like to pretend they are rich, those are the asswhores I have to interact with.  Oh, they are rich compared to me, but true rich buy investments.  Yuppie Scum just buy debt in an effort to appear rich.  And think they are smart for doing so.  They think that this is their ticket to being Rich, rather than just Well Salaried.

*

Okay, you get it, the Affluent Class are dumb asses.  But what I have in mind is talking of one of their little tricks they like to play.  Shopping on the holidays.  I’m not talking about the commercialization of Christmas, but rather the unnecessary shopping on the actually holiday itself.  Thank goodness I no longer work in retail, but I did for twenty years.  And without fail, everyone wants to be open on Thanksgiving or Christmas.  They pretend that the workers and their families matter to them, and then make sure that the workers aren’t going to be around their families on the holiday.  Wow, did you hurt yourself closing at 4pm on Thanksgiving?  Now that everyone has already cooked and eaten, now you are sending your people home to their families?  I mean, HELLO!  Anyone home up there?  If everyone is open on the holiday, then nobody makes much extra money from doing so.  You saw one grocery store or gas station open on the holiday, racking in beer and lotto money, so of course not having a brain in your skull you think you’ll open also.  Then everyone does.  Then it is just another regular profit day.  They did the same thing with Black Friday.  Once everyone is doing it, and for longer than a day, you don’t get any extra customers unless you literally give away items.  Which defeats the purpose of making money ( not to mention your insurance goes up due to liability due to deaths in those gladiator games ).

*

But I don’t care about Black Friday.  I’m mostly speaking of the traditional family holiday.  You’ll always have little old blue hairs with no friends or family tottering in making pests of themselves if you open for the holiday.  They are sad and pathetic and refuse to die.  But at least you can feel sorry for them and bond with them a little, two lost souls desperately clutching to each other as a surrogate family.  With the Affluent Humpers, holiday shopping is a tribal marker.  They do it maliciously.

*

Oh, look at me, I’m too well off to shop in bulk, or in advance.  I can go out to eat every day.  Only poor people stock their larder with peasant food.  Now, look at me, I’m a prize winning mother who provides better for my better family.  Look how many dishes I burn.  Well, of COURSE I’m going to run out of a little bit of this or a little bit of that-I’m far too important to do any shopping!  Why, running Junior to soccer to beef up his Harvard application simply takes FAR too much time.  And since I’m a better mother than you, because I care enough to marry someone richer, well, you can work in the store and wait on me as I pick up last minute items.  Dinner for YOUR family?  Why, just buy a $60 pre-made dinner at the store.  That’s what I would do if I were you.  And don’t you DARE get lippy with me.  The lower classes should be thankful for their jobs.  Why, if I had to work I’d be grateful I got to work the holiday.  Think of it as job security.  Not only should you Darkies Be Good, you should be grateful to your betters!  How would you have a job if it wasn’t for us?  What do you mean, how can we buy the company products if the company doesn’t pay enough of a wage?  Why, marry someone richer, of course.  Or get another job.  That is what I’d do if I wasn’t so busy and wealthy and important!

*

I defy you to tell me that isn’t exactly the attitude those bastards have.

  1. I don't think the rich (I prefer the term "elite") even see that this is their attitude. They simply show up expecting service and then demand to speak with a "supervisor" when everything isn't up to their expectation. What kind of service do they expect when they shop at places to that pay minimum wage only to meet the "customer's" demand for ever lower prices?

    1. The rich shopping where minimum wage is paid are just Posers, or are Slumming It. The Rich Snob grocery in town, full of mine incomes, is really hurting on profit right now. I know our local economy is on borrowed time and I wish it would hurry!

    2. Question/scenario: The mine/s shut down for whatever reason, eliminating the high wage earners from the local community, who then leave for employment elsewhere. Aren't these the very people that have the disposable income, and cause other local businesses to stay profitable so donations are made to the food bank? If those dropped off significantly, you'd possibly be out of a job. Would the new economic situation force you and the NOL out of the house and into the BPOD? Would she tolerate that and how long could you make it before a systemic, nationwide collapse happened?
      Peace out

    3. You are correct-the mines closing would close most of the town. The issue of course is would we even make it to the mine closings. We are already hurting at work. Rather than donating because they are replacing, they donate what isn't selling at the yard sale, or just to keep from visiting the dump and paying $5. The last director kept adding expenses thinking the good times would last forever. I feel bad for the new one. So, the job is on borrowed time no matter what. We are already squirreling construction supplies to the BPOD in anticipation of getting it ready for her ( getting the place up to NOL standards ) for worse case scenario. Worse case being the signal she won't mind doing what is necessary. This one has a good head on her shoulders.

    4. Are you thinking of the small cabin plan that you'e written of in the past. The solar heated one? Or just upgrading the POD? Just curious Jimbo.

    5. First is upgrading the BPOD. With time, I'm thinking of a mostly dug hole being turned into a SBPOD ( solar version ). That would be about $500 or so depending on glass cost. Already have about half that in the old BPOD upgrades ( shore up roof sides, shore up the stairwell walls, shore up steps, a handrail to assist the arthritic getting up the thing and enclosing the dirt section underground with plywood walls-about a 5x10 ft area. That is the major items, the small luxury items to follow as time permits ). Not sure when the old dwelling upgrades stop and when the new one gets built.

  2. “Which is of course stupid, because all they are doing is advertising their wealth.”

I recall an incident told to me by a former worker about a guy that attended their local church. Everyone felt sorry for “old Roy” because by all accounts, he was an old bum that didn't seem to have much going for him, so he was the beneficiary of much charity. Turned out that when the “old bum” died, he left his fortune of 3 million dollars to the church. I think that's the image to shoot for if you are of sound fiscal health.

I could lie and say that I don't care about wealth, but I do. Money may not buy you happiness if you're a thoroughly miserable person, but it goes damn far in doing so when you're not. Mating choices also become so much better. Personally I'd go the sugar daddy/baby route if I had such options.

Drove through Reno briefly on my way to look at that Modoc land (before I got the Elko land) and stopped off at a gas station. As I walked in to the place, something very unnatural caught my eye off to the right. There was a small room filled full of oldsters playing slot machines. Kind of a strange parallel universe there in Nevada.

  3. Hi Jim,
I was raised with the children of Seattle elite: large houses with views, 35-55' sailboats at Shilshole marina, Porsche 911's, conservatively expensive 300-series MBZ, Boy Scouts and lessons to keep the kids busy and not doing too much dope, Mothers on med's but driving everywhere anyway, mothers who consume 7L of wine a week between 9am and 3:30 when the kids get home and dads who are hardly ever home (with good income!). All-entitled to what they have and even more like their robber baron or war-profiteer grandparents. At least, they used to pretend the "little people" were just like them but minus some luck, college training, complex fraud, or gov't-sponsored monopoly. We all got some time off for the holidays (or, in my case, got 3.5x hourly pay for the holiday hours pushing carts back into Safeway, doubling my paycheck before xmas).

I wonder how many of these people or their children have even the minimal (USAF, Clinton-era) amount of warfare training I got? It might matter almost as much as how many mega-calories of food in buckets are stashed.

    1. Who has military experience? 1/2 of 1% join up at any time. How many of those saw actual combat 1/1000th?

      Delete
    2. The last really big group who saw mass-combat over extended periods are getting pretty old. But, don't mess with an old man who was in Viet Nam in 1961. Make sure his glass doesn't get empty and listen up. He might need a ride to the VA when they take his DL from him, and you should take him (in his car, natch').

Who can afford big armies now? NorK's and China, but not any NATO country. This isn't to minimize any experience someone has getting shot at recently, but the "big army" isn't big like we used to be able to afford. The cheap easy oil is over.

I've met some Millennials who served in the 2003+ Gulf Wars, and most are pretty decent. They aren't snowflakes, and seem isolated from their age cohort by their experiences. They are darn few.

The women who did any kind of combat-type job are much more physically-broken than the men. They wore out from the abuse (too much weight on their spines -not fat!-, not enough rest, too-long tours) and aren't the women they should be at 32. Drafting females is going to turn out even more poorly than "non-combat roles" have.

    3. Isn't the big deal just about Registering For The Draft? Generations have been registered without fighting.

      You are NOT Paranoid enough!
Just because Sam has not needed YET to sacrifice more than was available (all volunteer force), does NOT mean it is not coming soon...
I expect that just before the REAL BIG drop off, we will HAVE to start a war, in an attempt to keep the inevitable from happening.
It wont work, but that doesn't mean Uncle Sam wont try...
Why else would we need to raise the possible number of folks than COULD BE Drafted?

    5. I think registering was just a face saving move, or possibly political move to convince the Soviets we could counter conventionally. I still think we don't have the resources to go back to Vietnam era military of 3, 4, 5 million.

  4. What you've described is mostly *yuppie scum* (YS), not the truly wealthy. Anon, above, is right. Money may not buy happiness but having a decent amount of money brings a peace of mind that cannot be had any other way. Not having to worry about costs is it's own reward.

I have dealt with thousands of people over the last 40 years from all levels of the income strata and can safely say that the wealthier they are the nicer they are. If you made say $250k a year would you really give a $hit what anyone else thinks, about anything?

The wealthy people you see on the toob ranting and raving about this and that are despicable people no matter how much or little money they have. There are plenty of unwealthy people that are the same way. It's not the money, it's the underlying character of the person that you notice.

In today's society it is the truly despicable the media spotlights for the ratings. You'll never see, on MSNBC for example, a very wealthy person speaking kindly of others as it is boring and doesn't hold up to the media template that wealthy people are evil and greedy.

For every blowhard overflowing with puffed up braggadocio you see there are 10,000 people that are just as wealthy that keep to themselves and shun the limelight.

It's the shiny, sparkly noisemakers that hold the children's attention.

    1. Yes, that is an important distinction I should have made. The Elite Posers have the attitudes towards the poor. Although, I think the VERY rich would also, as they view us as expendable with their policies.

  5. Around here only one gas station and grocery store within 1 hour drive are open on sundays (for limited hours as well...) We thanked the grocery store owner for being open and he told us it was a newish policy just started 3 years ago, and though it was profitable enough he had a hard time finding the workers he needed to keep it open for the 4 hours he has.
I actually expect reduced store hours to be the next step down in the economic collapse. There are only so many hours of labor that can be paid for, as each employee has head count taxes, and must be kept very part time to avoid obamacare and similar taxes as well, so eventually to avoid taxes a buisness just has to reduce hours. It will be called 'streamlining' or 'being open when you need us'(but closed the rest of the time...) All the places famous for being open 24/7 will start reducing staffs and dropping the ads for how they are always open (I already see that happening)Then they will need to be "temporarily closed for cleaning or xyz" every week, then every day, then just operating on more limited hours.

    1. We have one grocery here open 24/7. Even Wally went to closing graveyard. 20k people, with the mines doing twelve hour shifts so that half of them could in theory want to shop overnight ( when I worked graveyards I stayed up on my nights off-but I might not be normal, at least in that regard ). 24/7 shopping is stupid anyway. Hell, I haven't even seen a casino have an overnight resturaunt open in decades ( I'm sure Vegas is different ). But you are right-less customers, less spending, less profit, less labor.
